    Description
    Data Scientist

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Data Scientist works with the MGB Health Care at Home Research and Development team to provide analytical support for research and development activities across a broad array of projects.

The MGB Health Care at Home team focuses on delivering innovative high-value care in patient homes through teams of clinicians, novel technology, and innovative workflows.

We seek a full-time Data Scientist interested in applying advanced biostatistical methods, clinical research principles, and medical informatics.

Applicants should have established an excellent portfolio in advanced biostatistical methods such as causal inference, repeated measures design, and various regression techniques.

Applicants should have experience working with electronic health record (EHR) data, administrative data such as medical claims, and physiologic sensor data.

In addition, we are interested in applicants who have experience managing and maintaining large databases and can execute signal processing or machine learning techniques on raw physiologic data.

The ideal applicant should have a strong programming background (e.g., Python, R, SQL, SAS, and/or STATA) and the drive and enthusiasm to learn about clinical care by assisting in state-of-the-art patient-centered research.

The most difficult aspects of this position involve applying the appropriate statistical methods to research questions.

The Data Scientist will be responsible for translating research questions into analytic plans and analyzing data, including medical and pharmacy claims data and clinical data; conducting valid statistical tests and statistical models and communicating findings in presentations and manuscripts.

Conceptualization of these analyses may be challenging and involve hierarchical models or repeated measures design. The Data Scientist is responsible for checking the accuracy and reliability of the data analyses.

These studies will produce generalizable, publishable findings.

Specifically, the Data Scientist will work with a team of investigators, clinical research coordinators, and Scientists on various clinical studies and quality improvement projects.

The Data Scientist will translate research questions into analytic plans, analyze clinical data, conduct valid statistical tests and models, assist with data visualization, and communicate findings in presentations and manuscripts.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Data Scientist will be working directly under the supervision of Dr.

Implement study-specific procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and internal best practices.
Conduct data analysis using a range of statistical methods and a variety of tools.
Establish data quality and validation processes. Perform QA and develop system documentation.
    Develop informatics and clinical tools.
Communicate findings through presentations and preparation of manuscripts.
Participate in meetings to review and discuss analytic methodologies and results.

Participate in other aspects of research, including study design, manuscript writing and grant writing as relevant to the programmer/analyst's skills and interests.

    Other duties as assigned.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate will have achieved strong performance in college-level statistics courses, with demonstrated strong analytic ability (including at least some experience working in SAS, STATA, R, Python, or similar programming languages).
