Duties:


The Biological Science Technician is responsible for a broad range of tasks associated with collection, management, outreach, and curation of scientific data and samples from ecological systems.

In this position, you will:


  • Contributes to meeting project goals by independently executing defined portions of short
- and long-range projects and curating data generated in both the field and lab.

  • Contributes to planning, design, and operation of experiments and sampling protocols that lead to the collection and analysis of samples and data.
  • Collects data in a wide variety of formats to ensure the needs of specific research activities and goals. Performs initial visual quality control on data entries, then organizes and documents data in a common digital space. Provides data postprocessing and additional automated quality control.
  • Coordinates with scientists, peers, and others to ensure proper management of research operations and that project priorities are met.

Qualifications:


GS-09 Experience:You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal Service.
For this position, specialized experience is defined as 1) experience supporting an environmental science research program, including collecting and processing soil and water samples in field and laboratory environments and 2) experience operating and maintaining analytical equipment, curating, and analyzing data, coordinating laboratory logistics, and executing multi-phase projects.


OR
Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
