- Provide technical support for seed health tests aimed at determining the presence or absence of plant pathogens.
- Conduct blotter tests for fungi, preparing agar media and dilution plating of bacteria, ELISA tests for bacteria and viruses.
- Train and supervise student workers on lab methods, equipment operation, best practices, and safety policies.
- Ensure that results are accurate, timely and that work is conducted under the best laboratory practices, follow standard operating procedures, and in compliance with National Seed Health System methods.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety and security policies.
- Possess excellent organization and interpersonal communication skills and able to meet deadlines
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision

Job Description:
The Seed Health Laboratory at Iowa State University's Seed Science Center is seeking applicants for a Research Scientist I position who will support and conduct laboratory testing of seed samples to determine the presence or absence of plant pathogens.
The Seed Science Center at Iowa State University is a center of excellence nationally and internationally in seed research, education, technology transfer, and international seed programs.
It provides a focus for teaching, research, and extension programs on seed in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and it is a global leader in introducing science into policy to benefit world seed trade.
The Seed Science Center is home to the largest public seed testing laboratory in the world.For more than 100 years, the lab has provided accurate and professional seed-testing services for members of the seed industry.
