The mission of Meals on Wheels Central Texas is to deliver care that empowers our neighbors by promoting dignity and independence.

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is currently celebrating 51 years of delivering a nutritious meal to our homebound and elderly community in Central Austin.

We are expanding our staff, and we have an immediate opening for a Community Engagement Specialist to join our team.


FLSA:
Full-time


Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm. 40 hours per week, M-F (no weekends).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completes phone or in person assessments for new Meals on Wheels applicants to assess their functional status, support network and eligibility for service. Assessments also include data collection for program evaluation. Makes referrals to internal or external programs as needed.
  • Completes phone or in person annual recertification assessments to review eligibility for service and to update functional, financial, community support and medical information. Recertification assessments also include data collection for program evaluation.
  • Complete every assigned initial and recertification assessment in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes CRM for assessments and all client documentation ensuring easy retrieval during daily operations, monitoring, or audits.
  • Maintain a work pace adequate to keep all computerized and paper records complete and accurate in a timely manner.
  • Maintains professional relationship with other organizations offering services for older adults and homebound people.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding client information and client interactions in accordance with all federal, state, funding source and agency policies and practices.
  • Attends scheduled team meetings.

WORK ENVIORMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position is eligible for hybrid work and based on needs of the organization.
  • Occasionally performs work offsite at client homes, inandoutdoors.
  • Occasionally walks to perform work.
  • Constantly reads information on a computer monitor and in writing.
  • Constantly communicates with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Frequently presents information to variable audiences.
  • Constantly moves and uses limbs to perform work; this position requires good manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Constantly operates a computer, phone and other office productivity devices.
  • Constantly sits in a stationary position.
  • Frequently moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other general office equipment.
  • Frequently use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs and ladders.
  • Occasionally move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • This position requires driving to clients' homes five days per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma/GED required with experience in client assessment and eligibility.
  • Previous social service experience or some social service college coursework a plus.
  • Passion for community.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation for conducting home visits.
  • Experience with and enjoyment in working with older adults.
  • Experience conducting phone or in person assessments.
  • Must be able to multitask and have a strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be proficient in standard software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and client relationship management software. We use Salesforce.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Fluency in Spanish helpful
  • Adept at working independently with limited supervision while maintaining effective and accurate performance.
  • Skilled in organizational and time management, able to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product, and pivot as priorities change.
  • Ability to interact effectively and communicate comfortably with people from all socioeconomic and disability levels in addition to older adults.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing in managing stressful situations.
