    Description

    Job Title: Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer

    Location: Sunnyvale, CA

    Duration: 12 Months

    The primary role of an Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer is to inspect, troubleshoot, and determine the root cause of faulty Consumer Electronics such as computers, Virtual Reality Headsets, home electronics, and wearables. An Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer typically applies principles of electronics, mechanical, and software engineering to identify root causes and communicate findings.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Conduct failure analysis on Consumer Electronics devices.
    • Replicate reported customer failures.
    • Collect software logs.
    • Update and flash devices with new software and firmware.
    • Create test scenarios, gather failure data as required.
    • Employ diagnostic tools to analyze failure patterns (e.g. oscilloscope, audio tester, thermal camera).
    • Test and disassemble devices following engineering instructions and technical manuals.
    • Identify and address failures down to the module or component level.
    • Suggest containment, corrective actions, or enhancements.
    • Prepare and deliver Failure Investigation reports to multidisciplinary teams.
    • Collaborate with different engineering teams (Quality, Electrical, Reliability, Software).
    • Manage laboratory space, including testing and assembly areas.
    • Handle device receiving, tracking, and shipping. Update on triage progress.

    Skills:

    • Creativity, effective communication (verbal and written), analytical thinking, problem-solving.
    • Team-oriented and meticulous.
    • Proficiency in circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic devices, computer hardware, software.
    • Understanding of machines, tools, their functions, repair, and maintenance.
    • Practical application of engineering science and technology.

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
    • Interest in working with consumer electronic products.
    • Experience in testing and repairing consumer electronics.
    • Knowledge of failure investigation techniques (5 Why, Root Cause Tree Analysis...).
    • Keen attention to detail, hands-on approach, self-driven.
    • Proven capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic test equipment like oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and standard lab tools (microscope, hand soldering tools).
    • Experience in presenting engineering solutions to both technical and nontechnical teams.
