The University of Maryland School of Medicine presents an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Animal Research Assistant to be part of their Department of Pediatrics. As a Laboratory Animal Research Assistant, you will be responsible for carrying out animal research activities and offering animal clinical care in a laboratory environment involving various species. The work is conducted following the guidelines of reputable organizations like USDA, Public Health Services (PHS), Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), Association for assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).



Primary Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine laboratory maintenance and research tasks including general housekeeping, daily animal health observations, collection of cultures and biological specimens, reporting outcomes to the veterinarian, administering prescribed treatments, and executing various biochemical procedures. Additionally, you may be involved in performing advanced research activities on animals, surgical procedures, postoperative care, administration of pharmaceuticals, and euthanasia processes.
  • Conduct literature research, prepare manuscripts, scientific illustrations, and assist in the design of research studies. You might also be responsible for training students or other technicians, developing laboratory experimentation policies, and procuring supplies.
  • Undertake administrative duties as required and perform any other assigned tasks.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's degree in biology, agriculture, veterinary science, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field.

Other:
Relevant experience combined with education will also be considered.

_The Hiring Range for this position is in the mid $40,000s to low $50,000s, based on education and experience._
