    Baton is the Silicon Valley-based technology innovation lab for Ryder, a leading logistics company that owns 260k trucks and manages $7.4B of freight.

    Prior to the September 2022 acquisition, Baton was a venture-backed start-up that operated a fleet of trucks and hung out at truck stops to truly understand the challenges at hand.

    The Problem We're Solving


    Our mission is to eliminate supply chain waste by creating a digital platform to manage freight and eliminate supply chain waste.

    There are 500 million hours wasted in trucking each year, over 3 billion gallons of fuel wasted per year from trucks idling, and 1 in 5 trucks on the road driving empty at any given point.

    This has a massive impact on the environment, the lives of millions of drivers, and ultimately, the cost of goods that we all pay.

    Job Description

    We are seeking a Infrastructure Software Engineer that thrives in a fast-paced environment and has an unrelenting passion for building robust and scalable web infrastructure systems.

    This pivotal role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, assisting with design planning, and developing new solutions from scratch.

    Ideal candidates are proactive, experienced problem-solvers with strong development skills in Python or similar languages, and a passion for data streaming and data analytics.

    Responsibilities

    Contribute to our near real time data streaming and analytics platform from building our data streaming pipelines up to designing new data models.

    Design the data streaming and messaging architecture, and own the data landscape, including near real-time data ingestion, processing, and data consumption.

    Work closely with data stakeholders to distill complex data problems into elegant technical solutions.
    Invent and tinker. Imagine completely new ideas, experiment, and build transformative solutions for the freight industry.

    Basic Qualifications
    3+ years of full-time experience in software development
    Infrastructure development experience with Python or similar modern web languages
    Experience with big data infrastructure such as Databricks, Kafka, Spark, etc

    Strong knowledge of modern big data

    Preferred Qualifications
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    Strong data analytics background

    Compensation Range:
    The annual base salary range for this position is $136,000 - $181,000*. Compensation will vary based on factors including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Baton's full-time employees are eligible for an annual performance bonus.
