Duties:


  • Receives, stores, and assembles for issue, shipment, and distribution, a wide variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities.
  • Maintains receipt log, prepares necessary forms reflecting actual receipt data; signs receipts; notes discrepancies and passes documents on to Stock Control Branch personnel.
  • Stores, stacks or palletizes supplies considering use, size, shape, weight, quantity;
  • Checks for spoilage, pilferage, contamination and damage; shortages, misshipments or damage are noted and reported to Stock Control personnel.
  • Delivers supplies, equipment and furniture; relocates furniture from warehouse areas to offices and relocates office furniture from one office building to another.
  • Operates gas and electric forklifts capable of lifting 2000 to 6000 pounds as high as 168 inches in order to move, load, or crate merchandise, materials and supplies from one location to another.
  • Stores misdirected hazardous material until given shipping instructions.

Qualifications:


  • Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screenout element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screenout element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
  • The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
  • Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler without more than normal supervision (SOE): perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as: operating material handling equipment.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


Physical Effort:

Works on concrete surfaces for long periods of time. Bends, stoops and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Lifts and carries items weighing up to forty pounds and occasionally items weighing in excess of forty pounds with assistance from other workers or with equipment provided.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Incumbent is exposed to all weather conditions such as extremes of hot and cold and works in areas that are damp and drafty. Incumbents is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapers, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel-toed shoes, hardhats, rubber gloves, masks, etc.
