Job DescriptionThe Assistant Press Operator will assists Press Operators with press make ready, operating, and maintaining sheet-fed or web offset printing press.

This includes:

Inserting packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height, fastening reinforcing bars to offset blankets, and installing plates and blankets on press cylinders, using hand tools and power tools, to achieve pressure required for printingAdjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand toolsAssist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand toolsWash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on pressAssist Press Operator by making necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the workOperate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, andwork on other operation duties as directed by the supervisorsPerform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examineplates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc.

Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the qualityspecifications of the workClean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as requiredPerforms periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturerResponsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality andpostal specificationsProvides accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speedsResponsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press, and using the "Request For Action" system to notifythe maintenance department of issues with the equipmentOperate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, andwork on other operation duties as directed by the supervisorsQualificationsAbility to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfullyKnowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being runKnowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color and register is requiredSkill to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired productAbility to use micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctlyAbility to make adjustments to feeder and feed board (e.g., ability to adjust suctions and blast, front and side guides and the timing of the head stops)Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment under guidance of senior level Press OperatorsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredRequires minimum 2 years general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materialsAdditional InformationThe pay range for this role at the noted location is $ $25.48 / hour.

Theactual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to:
education,skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location.

In addition tobase salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may alsoinclude overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
