POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Under direct supervision, performs assignments requiring the use of independent judgment and problemsolving techniques. Employees are expected to demonstrate considerable knowledge of assigned program regulations and procedures by the third month of employment.
The Traffic Court Specialist I positions are being filled as part of a contract with the Superior Court.

Two (2) Vacancies are available at the following locations:


  • One (1) vacancy at Pasadena Superior Court
  • One (1) vacancy will work among two Superior Courts, Beverly Hills Superior Court and Santa Monica Court

Essential Job Duties:


  • The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Collect applicable traffic violator fees and penalties.
  • Receive and process cash, money orders and credit media.
  • Prepare receipts for skims and closeouts and balances cash drawer daily.
  • Process completion certificates (batches and indexes completion certificates).
  • Receive and respond to written appeals and judicial correspondence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Understand and applies policies and procedures.
  • Compile and analyze a variety of statistical or financial information.
  • Make effective recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Plan, organize and manage multiple assignments.
  • Operate a computer and a variety of software programs and other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between court locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a yearforyear basis.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Two (2) years of general clerical or customer service experience with cash handling responsibilities.

  • Bilingual (Spanish)

  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Court employees and public

  • Respond to inquiries and routine complaints regarding citations
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Deal tactfully and effectively with the public and Court staff
  • Represent LACDA before the public
  • Take initiative

Screening and Selection Process

  • Salary compensation is dependent on qualifications (experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities). Initial salary placement is generally made between the start and midpoint of the posted range. New hires are not eligible to start at the maximum of the posted range.
