Job Responsibilities

Performs and supervises staff in administrative functions regarding engineering and correspondence. Assures that final plans and monthly pay estimates are completed and submitted under the approved SCDOT guidelines. Evaluates and prepares daily work reports, and project checklists. Reviews reports, monthly estimates and final construction plans. Supervises inspection duties performed by subordinates on roadway and bridge projects in Florence and Williamsburg County. Monitors all construction activities on projects assigned to the unit to insure that all specifications, plans, and contracts are adhered to. Assures that all required samples are obtained and submitted for testing. Resolves problems as they arise regarding roadway and bridge construction. Assists the general public with complaints and concerns regarding road and bridge construction projects. Reviews plans with property owners to determine the effect projects have on their property, conflicts, and possible solutions. Monitors contractor's compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding control of erosion and storm water pollution. Provides technical assistance to contractors in the preparation of erosion control and pollution prevention plans. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and / or 12 hour shifts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
