Duties:


  • You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient.
  • You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires.
  • You will establish onscene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
  • You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and use all safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and will fall under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Driver/Operator Aerial certification within one year of your start date.

Qualifications:


GS-7:


Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-7: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Operations, Driver/Operator-Pumper, and Driver/Operator Aerial.

The following certification is also required:

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and must have been awarded by the State or National Registry (if you do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire).

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement.

If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.



GS-6:


Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; and 5) Performing basic and routine medical procedures
