    About CAC Early Childhood Program...

    For over 50 years, the CAC Early Childhood Program has helped prepare our community's most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and later in life. Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Childhood Education, and Child Care programs promote children's development through services that support early learning, health, and family well-being. Over 300 children ages 0-5 and pregnant women are served each year at five Pike County locations or in the family's own home. The program has attained the highest achievement of five-star Step Up to Quality ratings at all sites. The Early Childhood Program strives to "join with our community in strengthening families and improving the quality of life for children."

    Position Impact and Purpose...

    The Education Coach provides coaching and support to the Early Childhood Education Staff. The Education Coach is responsible for observing and assessing classroom and home visit activities; provide coaching and model best practices for education staff and Family Enrichment Specialists; and provide supportive, respectful interactions with all staff through application of professional knowledge to work with adult learners. This position requires excellent communication skills to advise staff in teaching strategies related to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, curriculum implementation, and Conscious Discipline techniques. The Education Coach functions in an advisory and consultative capacity to increase the quality and effectiveness of teaching in the Early Childhood Program.

    Essential Functions...

    Functional Area: Coaching

    Estimated Effort:50%

    Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes and Expectations

    · Assess all education staff and home visitors to identify strengths, areas of needed support, and which staff will benefit most from intensive coaching.

    · Utilize the Practice Based Coaching (PBC) and Together Learning and Collaborating (TLC) models when coaching staff.

    · Provide opportunities for intensive coaching to staff by including opportunities to be observed and receive feedback and modeling of effective teaching practices directly related to program performance goals.

    · Provide opportunities for education staff not identified for intensive coaching to receive other forms of research based professional development aligned with program performance goals.

    · Follow and adhere to the CAC Coaching Plan.

    · Complete and document all coaching sessions, including training, time spent with coaches, resources, travel, follow-up sessions, and progress.

    · Assist teaching staff and home visitors with appropriate curriculum planning and implementation.

    · Provide feedback in a supportive, instructive, and non-judgmental way.

    · Treat new staff as less experienced but professional colleague. Provide observation and needs assessment within 45 days of employment.

    · Mentor staff through observation and feedback. Give education staff information about his or her strengths and successes as well as areas where change or alteration would be beneficial.

    · Help implement CDA training and completing CDA certifications and renewals on current staff.

    · Work as a member of the Education team to ensure program curriculum fidelity and data analysis.

    · Must handle confidential information in accordance with agency policy.

    · Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan and deliver collaborative services across all service areas.

    · Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.

    Functional Area: Monitoring

    Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes and Expectations

    · Monitor lesson plans to ensure that staff adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children as identified in the Individual Education Plans (IEP) and/or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and assessment information.

    · Assist in tracking of information and documentation regarding home visits, attendance records, screening summaries, reports, and all other essential records required by the program in a timely and comprehensive manner.

    · Monitor children's educational files to ensure compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards.

    · Assist in the monitoring of transition activities including classroom visits into and out of the Early Childhood Program.

    · Participate in program planning and on-going monitoring including the Program Self-Assessment, Strategic Plan, etc.

    · Assist in monitoring ongoing assessments according to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Ohio Early Learning, and Development Standards.

    · Assist in ordering supplies for the classrooms and purchasing supplies for trainings when needed.

    · Class rate reliability certification completed annually

    · Assist with class (classroom assessment scoring system) and program quality assessment observations. Provide timely feedback to teaching staff, and set goals for improvement.

    · Ensure general maintenance and security of facility and assist in inventory of equipment and supplies. Shall request supplies as needed to ensure provision of services.

    · Participating in and /or writing minutes of staff meetings.

    Functional Area: Parent, Family Community Engagement

    · Document all relevant contacts with parents on case notes.

    · Provide other support as necessary, including transporting families on a limited, emergency basis.

    · Encourage volunteerism and attendance to all parent activities and help foster an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces family engagement with children.

    Functional Area: Transportation

    Estimated Effort: 5%

    Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes and Expectations

    · Drive safely at all times and follow all Ohio Laws, Regulations, and CAC Agency Policies.

    · Secure all children in safety harnesses or car seats.

    · Complete a 2-hour annual ODJFS Ohio Pre-service Driver Curriculum Training.

    · Complete all necessary driving duties and paperwork.

    · Shall obtain a van (T8V) physical each year or upon request by supervisor.

    · Adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures.

    · Responsible for reading and adhering to all agency policies and procedures, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Licensing Rules and/or Ohio Department of Education Licensing Rules for Preschool Children and Head Start Performance Standards.

    · Knowledgeable of Community Action Programs and local community resources.

    · Adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures.

    · Must immediately divulge information to supervisor if convicted of criminal offenses and/or traffic offenses that could affect agency insurance coverage.

    · Is aware that social networking sites are banned during work time unless they are program specific.

    · Participate in committee assignments.

    · Responsible, along with other staff, for keeping center, office, kitchen and supply areas clean and orderly.

    · Assist with other duties as defined by assigned supervisor when other work is necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Early Childhood Program and/or CAC.

    · Participate in recruitment and enrollment as necessary to ensure that full enrollment is maintained.

    · Respond appropriately to crisis in emergency situations.

    · Hours may vary from 5:45 am to 6:15 pm. Shall be expected to substitute for other staff to ensure the provision of services in the home base and center base program.

    · Complete 15 hours of annual training.

    · Must be willing to engage in professional development efforts, including occasional overnight stays, as available to the position and requested by supervisor.

    · Expectations include: a pleasant demeanor, a positive attitude, a willing spirit and team commitment. Must behave and act in ways between and among co-workers that is conducive to team work, cooperation and an overall effort to ensure a pleasant and positive work atmosphere. Must maintain a courteous, professional demeanor with children/families and maintain a positive reflection of CAC and the Early Childhood Program.

    Minimum Requirements...

    Education: Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or qualifying degree

    Job-Related Experience: Teaching experience in a home based and/or center-based setting with children birth to five.

    People Management Experience: This position does not directly supervise employees.

    Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations: There are no specific credentials for this position.

    Other Requirements

    · Physical exam and/or T-8(V) exam

    · Updated immunizations

    · Three references

    · Permission to obtain a copy of a BCI and FBI background check

    · A signed Standards of Conduct Form.

    · Obtain CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Communicable Disease training.

    · Valid Ohio Driver's License, reliable transportation, and up-to-date proof of insurance.

    · Be insurable under the agency's insurance policy.

    · Must be willing to complete van pre-service training and obtain certification within the goal set forth by the program. (Must be 21 years of age and be covered by agency insurance to drive agency vehicles with clients)

    · Ability to lift 40 pounds, stoop and bend to speak with children at their level.

    · Must possess audio and visual skills to care for young children.

    · Maintain high level of professionalism at all times.

    · Aware that person cell phones are not permitted in the classroom.

    Preferred Qualifications...

    · Preference given for length of experience mentoring or supervising less experienced staff.

    · Preference given based on number of years of teaching experience in a home based and/or center-based setting with children birth to five.

    · Preference given for completion of training or experience with the Parents As Teacher Educator, Conscious Discipline, HighScope and/or COR Advantage.

    · Preference given for experience advising staff with the Child Development Associate (CDA) process.

    Working Conditions...

    Position is in a well-lighted office environment. This position requires occasional local and regional travel for the purpose of engaging with the assigned programs/departments and training. Work is fast paced and involves multiple, sometimes competing priorities, and management of multiple projects. Can involve moderate-to-high levels of stress.
