Qualifications

  • In depth understanding of VA and DoD TA provisions and University practices relating to registration and enrollment, grades, auditing of courses, and enrollment changes to determine if student is making continual progress in their program.   • Ability to analyze and identify problems, assess alternatives and render logical decisions. (required)
  • Ability to work independently and serve as a resource to staff and campus administrators for the specialized information relating to VA education benefits, Department of Defense tuition assistance programs, and Cal Vet Programs. (required)
  • Ability to utilize and display good written and verbal communication, public relations, and professional attitude and demeanor when engaging with students, clients, employees, and staff of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds and mediating between hostile and/or contending parties or groups. (required)
  • Communication skills sufficient to write or to speak on a onetoone basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to explain veterans and military educational benefits, grading, registration and enrollment procedures; skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity sufficient to assist student in resolutions of concerns and problems. (preferred)
  • Ability to perform a wide range of tasks with frequent interruptions and/or distractions and under conditions of fluctuating workload while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and meeting multiple competing deadlines. Strong attention to detail and ability to understand complex student systems and databases and how they interrelate; analytical ability to abstract relevant information from such systems. (required)
  • Knowledge of University and office policies and procedures concerning confidentiality of student records; knowledge of FERPA and other legislation pertaining to the release and confidentiality of student records. (preferred)
  • Ability to make inperson or remote group presentations to provide information on local, state, and federal VA and DoD TA education benefits and procedures and policies of the university. (required)
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with campus departments, UC campuses, and external agencies. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. (required)
