Primary Purpose: Support a developmentally appropriate classroom to allow the children the opportunity to develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
Qualifications:
Education/Requirements:
According to state licensing standards, must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to complete 30 clock hours of professional development training annually
Ability to complete CPR and First Aid and Child Abuse training annually
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Understands developmentally appropriate practices for the age of children in care (Training Available)
Shows initiative and completes tasks without being asked
Shows insight into child and adult behavior (Training Available)
Communicates effectively and clearly with parents, staff and administrators, in both verbal and written form
Demonstrates sound judgment when planning for children's safety and health
Presents a good model to children of language use, both verbal and written
Responds to and interacts with children in their play environments and at the child's eye level.
Helps children with toileting or diapering needs
Able to lift children up to 40 pounds
Utilizes time well and is organized
Accepts and respects diversity in children and parents
Exhibits flexibility and a sense of humor
Understands and shows respect for confidentiality of children, parents and other staff
Experience: 1 years of experience in a developmentally appropriate center (recommended)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervise the children at all times. Observe and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors year round, assuring their health and safety.
Ensure that each child receives individual attention.
Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.
Maintain responsibility for the arrangement, tidiness and organization of the classroom.
Develop a friendly relationship and open communication with each child and his/her parents.
Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff.
Observe and correct/report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds or equipment.
Maintain the teaching and care giving standards established by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (DPRS).
Communicate regularly with parents through daily greetings and written comments on children's daily charts.
Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center.
Assist in other projects as assigned by the Child Care Director.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress
Must be able to stoop, bend, and walk while carrying a child up to 40 lbs.
Must be able to move from standing to sitting on the floor without difficulty frequently throughout the day
Must be able to safely lift and carry children.
Must be able to change diapers, assist with toileting, and administer medication in a safe manner for all children
Must be able to perform emergency evacuation procedures with ease
Must be able to change crib bedding and perform regular classroom housekeeping tasks such as picking up toys, restocking supplies for individual children (diapers, wipes, etc.) and for the classroom
Sanitizing tables various times during the day and sweeping floors after meals
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and individual needs of all the children in the classroom
Must be able to tolerate the typical sounds of the children room, i.e. crying, laughter, and active play
