  • The
    Program Development Coordinator position, under general supervision, will coordinate the Tourism Program for the PARD historic tourist sites and parks. This position will report to the Program Manager of the Historic Preservation and Tourism Program within the division.

Physical Requirements:Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to lifting up to fifteen (15) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant's needs and safety issues.

Travel: If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin
Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy: This posting may be used to fill other vacancies in other divisions/work locations within the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Decisions on assigned selection will be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

Pay Range

  • May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to work during City emergencies such as extreme weather events.

    Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education:


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, public relations, tourism studies, marketing, journalism or related field.

Preferred Experience:


  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software or equivalent.
  • Experience in promoting destinations and events to tourists.
  • Experience with public sector contracting and procurement.

Preferred Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax statute and allowable uses or the ability to learn within 90 days of hire.

Other:


  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

  • Oversees the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and sponsored special events.
  • Leads initiatives related to community needs and outreach.
  • Ensures the programs and services offered contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities and approved budget.
  • Works with internal and external individuals to identify/plan program themes.
  • Monitors the delivery of the programs and events to maintain or improve quality.
  • Provides regular program reports.
