Director of Supply Chain Management

This position is based at our headquarters in San Jose, CA with occasional travel to supplier sites and other company locations as needed. The role is not open for remote work.

Position Overview

Reporting to the VP of Manufacturing and Operations, the Director of Supply Chain Management will play a pivotal role in shaping and optimizing our supply chain operations to ensure the efficient procurement of materials and components essential to our product development and both in-house and outsourced manufacturing processes. This position will lead the planning, purchasing and logistics teams and requires a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in supply chain management of semiconductor and photonics products. The role will require expert proficiency in PLM and MRP systems to drive efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reliability across the supply chain.

Essential Functions

Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management

Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies to secure a reliable and cost-effective supply of materials and components.
Identify and qualify suppliers capable of meeting quality, reliability, and performance requirements in photonics, laser, and semiconductor packaging.
Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing agreements, and terms to optimize cost savings and mitigate supply chain risks.

Procurement and Purchasing

Oversee the procurement process for materials and components, including RFQs, PO issuance, and supplier management.
Actively take ownership of PLM and MRP systems to manage material requirements, forecast demand, and generate procurement and fulfillment plans.
Monitor inventory levels and lead times to ensure timely availability of materials for production.

Supplier Performance Management

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure supplier performance in areas such as quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
Conduct regular supplier assessments and performance reviews to drive continuous improvement and mitigate supply chain disruptions.
Collaborate with suppliers to address issues, implement corrective actions, and improve overall supplier reliability and performance.

Inventory Management and Optimization

Implement inventory management strategies to optimize inventory levels, reduce carrying costs, and minimize stockouts.
Utilize MRP systems to track inventory levels, monitor demand patterns, and forecast future requirements.
Implement lean principles and best practices to minimize waste and improve overall inventory efficiency.

Collaboration and Communication

Foster strong relationships and effective communication with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and finance.
Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure alignment on requirements and priorities.
Proactively communicate supply chain issues, risks, and opportunities to senior management and drive collaborative solutions.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management within the semiconductor industry, with expertise in photonics, laser, and semiconductor packaging..
Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems. Arena PLM and NetSuite ERP/MRP experience is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of semiconductor and laser module manufacturing processes, supplier quality requirements, and industry best practices.
Excellent negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship management skills.
Experience in both start-up and established corporate environments is a plus.
Experience in recruiting, mentoring and growing of teams is required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a demonstrated track record of driving process improvements and cost savings.

Pay range: $190K to $220K
