About Us

In Alabama, Ascension’s Providence is a full service, 349-bed facility with all private patient rooms on a 277-acre campus in west Mobile. Since its founding in 1854, Providence has been serving by caring for and healing the people of this beautiful picturesque community and its surrounding areas. Providence offers specialized services such as open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, cancer services, an obstetrics unit with labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum suites, a dedicated pediatrics unit, a freestanding rehabilitation and wellness center and a 100,000 square foot Outpatient Center with dedicated outpatient diagnostic services and surgical suites. Recognized as Mobile’s most preferred hospital for seventeen consecutive years, our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to south Alabama and southeast Mississippi, with a special concern for persons who are poor and vulnerable.

Mission

Providence Health System was founded on the principle of service to others. Our health system, locally and nationally, believes in healthcare that leaves no one behind. Each year, we provide millions of dollars of charity care for those who have little or no financial resources to maintain their good health. In addition, we take our commitment to persons who are poor and vulnerable beyond our healthcare facilities, through services to people in need in communities such as Mobile Terrace and Bayou La Batre.

Recognizing the relationship between food insecurity and health, Providence Hospital developed a partnership with Feeding America and a local food bank. The organizations work together on a range of programs, including community gardens, outreach and enrollment efforts, educational opportunities and more. Providence Hospital has also engaged in other outreach projects such as: building a Senior Center in an underserved community, establishing service centers for northwest Mobile’s Hispanic community, delivering disaster relief and ongoing services in south Mobile County, and supporting Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy in its mission to deliver prescription medicines to those in need.
