About Tymon Geslicki:
I’m currently an Applied Cognitive Psychology: User Experience student at Claremont Graduate University. I previously graduated from St. Olaf College as a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. During my undergraduate studies, I designed a website acting as a literature review for autism spectrum disorder, for an Independent Study course. The website gathers together available scientific studies on ASD to provide an overview of the condition for people who wish to understand how much we know from an explicitly scientific perspective rather than a more conventional “pop psych” one.
During college, my main interests were based more in neuropsychology, biopsychology, and cognitive psychology. During my senior year, I was selected as one of a six-student research group with Dr. Gary Muir, helping study head direction cells in rats. While the COVID-19 Pandemic cut the latter project short, it was critical in establishing key skills in scientific research and research design.
I later worked at Dr. Michael J. Perrotti, Ph.D., Inc. as a research assistant. Although my time there was cut short by Dr. Perrotti's passing, I gained valuable experience in not only writing documents and correcting reports for both clinical and forensic cases, but also practically applying principles of research to help design housing accommodations for the neurodivergent and mentally challenged children of one of Dr. Perrotti's clients.
Because the pathway of life is varied and unpredictable, I've kept my doors open; indeed, while my undergraduate studies focused more strongly on theoretical fields, the practical applications of Applied Cognitive Psychology: User Experience are highly compelling, with a great amount of potential for real-world impact. Currently, I seek to promote greater understanding and acceptance of neurodivergent individuals through integrating cognitive psychology and accommodative design. While User Experience programs often champion accessibility as a key part of design, neurodivergence is one area that is often left unaccounted for in execution, and as an autistic individual myself, I hope to be able to fill in those gaps through the experiences offered by this program.
I have considerable skills with computer software, being versed in IBM SPSS Statistics, Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel), Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides), WordPress, and Clip Studio Paint. As a writer, I also have experience penning research papers, literature reviews, research proposals, essay writing, editorial writing, persuasive writing, and narrative writing.
