Employee Relations: Coached Operations leadership in resolving their difficult employee relations issues.  Investigated critical issues, i.e., sexual harassment complaints, threats to employee safety, and management training and development through regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings. 

Performance Management: Managed the complete performance review cycle, including design, communications, training on the system, providing coaching on difficult feedback, overseeing successful uploads of all reviews, and ensuring on-time compensation changes for merit increases.  Gathered development plans from reviews to prioritize and plan L&D workshops.   

Learning and Development: Led the RFP process, selection and implementation of the Litmos SAP Learning Management System and developed a curriculum to create the “Foundation University” for management training. Certified in teaching “Do What Matters Most,” a productivity tool for time management.

Employee Retention:  Helped rollout an employee engagement survey, partnering with Workify to help analyze and collect surveys.  Met with teams to develop their action plans for addressing their “bottom 3” items and followed up to insure execution of these action plans.  Conducted onboarding and off-boarding for all employees including, exit interviews and presented results and analysis to our Programs teams annually.

Talent Acquisition: Helped staff our company operations in a town with a population of only 1,200.  Creative strategies included: a commuter benefits program that encouraged candidates from larger towns to apply for our positions; utilization of job ads to advertise our open positions; and collaborating with universities, associations, and societies for referrals.  Helped compensation determine salary offers and promotional offers for open positions.

Performance Management and Total Rewards:  Working through 6 HR Managers, we rolled out CEC’s performance review system utilizing Workday as an HRIS.  Completed spreadsheets and projections for system-wide merit increases while meeting budget expectations.  Analyzed results to ensure inequities and exceptions were resolved properly.  Worked with other COEs to create annual Total Rewards summaries for employees.

Talent Management and Succession Planning: Worked with Operations partners on the 9-Box process to identify and develop successors throughout the system. Partnered with 4 Regional Vice Presidents for all U.S. corporate locations (320+). 

Managing Compliance Through Systems: Collaborated with a cross-department committee to help monitor and stay ahead of state minimum wage changes, ensuring timely changes on all employees affected by the new minimums, monitoring compression, and projecting cost differentials to executive leadership.  Redesigned candidate ATS to address ban-the-box and Equal Pay Act compliance changes.

Executive Search: Worked on placements of clients in Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Ft. Lauderdale, and the Midwest for corporate executive staff and field multi-unit operator searches. Skills included recruiting passive candidates through online searches, data base searches, industry subscriptions, and investigative cold-calling.

 

FIESTA RESTAURANT GROUP, INC., Addison, TX                                       2015 – 2016

Human Resources Vice-President

 

Strategic Leadership:  Led the HR and executive teams in change management initiatives to move the Pollo Tropical corporate office from Miami to Dallas, including preparation of employee communications, severance plan design, relocation plan design, space planning, and logistics. 

Compensation and Benefits: Worked hands-on to complete the annual performance review cycle, benefit audits, holiday bonuses, 1095-C compliance, STI and LTI administration, and proxy preparation.

Vendor Management and Selection:  Extensively worked on RFPs, vendor selection, and getting contracts approved for Talent Acquisition initiatives, Benefits Administration, and Workday Implementation. Experience working with Ultipro and Kronos (as well as Workday). 

 

WENDY’S (dba, “EMERALD FOODS, INC.”), Houston, TX                           1995 – 2015

Human Resources Vice-President and Director of Area Operations         

 

Strategic Leadership:  Successfully transitioned the Company through a divestiture that reduced the corporate support staff by 2/3rds while implementing a new payroll/HRIS system and a new ACA-compliant major medical program.  Presided over the purchase of 16 Cinnabon locations in California. Directed, supported, and trained the management team to overcome difficult post-9/11 challenges.

People Orientation:  Strategically developed an internal promotion system for shift supervisors that increased career development for hourly employees and reduced labor expenditures by $300,000+

Risk Management:  Authored a Safety Program that included monthly training, communications, and auditing of safety systems empowering employees to make a 60% improvement in the workers’ compensation modifier.  Audited safety systems in each location.

Accomplishment:  While leading HR, EFI received a National Award for People Excellence and Houston’s Best Places to Work (large employer category).  Won HR Houston’s Impact Award for creatively preventing a major company downsizing.  Accomplished these goals through excellence in employee retention, internal development of management, and modeling seven employment promises.

Cost Control:  Reduced unemployment taxes by 0.6% ($480,000) through a centralized filing initiative that maintained better recordkeeping and improved the Company’s defense on unemployment claims.
