With 20 years of experience in education, I began as a classroom teacher and have embraced various roles, ultimately becoming a Behavior Specialist. Holding a Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration, I employ a hands-on approach that emphasizes active engagement and effective learning. A key focus of my work is supporting classroom teachers by providing resources, training, and guidance to address the diverse needs of students. Experience
With 20 years of experience in education, I currently work with the Brownsville Independent School District, where I have spent 17 years as a Special Education Teacher and served as Department Chair for the same duration. For the past three years, I have transitioned into the role of a Behavioral Specialist. I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration, which has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of diverse learners. My hands-on approach emphasizes active engagement and effective learning, and I am dedicated to supporting classroom teachers by providing resources and training to address the diverse needs of their students. I prioritize collaboration among educators, students, and parents to foster strong partnerships that are essential for student success. Through my commitment to empowering families and implementing strategies that promote positive behavior, I strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all students can thrive both emotionally and academically.
Education
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a Minor in Criminal Justice, along with studies in Social Work and Spanish Interpretation and Translation, all obtained from the University of Texas at Brownsville. Additionally, I earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration and hold an EC-12 Teaching Certification in Texas. My educational experience has been with the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), where I have spent 20 years in various roles, including 17 years as a Special Education Teacher and currently as a Behavioral Specialist. I also teach English as a Second Language to adult learners within the same school district. This diverse educational and professional background equips me with a broad understanding of social dynamics and effective educational practices, enabling me to support a wide range of learners.
