Tel McDaniel

I am currently a Group Leader in the Full Carton department, for a very large distribution warehouse in Crawfordsville, IN. This department is entirely based around employees working with forklifts of serval different types. I am trained on all of them myself and previously was a forklift operator/trainer in the same department. I have held the Group Leader position for 10 years now. My daily responsibilities include overseeing the production and day-to-day workflow of 20-40+ employees, assisting other departments with many different tasks, reviewing individual employee production rates, and ensuring the department meets it's daily commitments. When the company has “secure” material in house that must be guarded, I was also one of the few people that oversaw that area to ensure inventory and material picking accuracy. I have been in several other key roles during the warehouse's physical expansion as well as the ground-up rebuild of it's inventory management and overall computer system environment. This includes beta testing as well as being a “super-user” that trains employees on the use of the system.  I have also been an instructor for the Powered Industrial Equipment class that is mandatory for all employees that use any type of powered equipment in the warehouse. I am the main trainer for all back-up Group Leaders and Supervisors in my department. I am extremely knowledgeable of our inventory systems and work very closely with the Stock Control and IT departments to resolve any problems that may arise with exceptional critical thinking skills, strong attention to detail, and organization. This has lead me to work well under pressure as well as being a self-starter that requires minimal management. I am responsible for creating, updating, and implementing, many of the department procedures that are currently in use. I have also created several Excel spreadsheets that streamlined employee information, and are now used across all shifts at this facility for employee cross-training purposes as well as general inventory organization. I have been cross trained in most all fulfillment departments of my current employer. This has also lead to me being a back-up Group Leader for another department, as well as for my department manager. While preforming the role of Department Manager, I am directly responsible for overseeing the workflow of 2 departments simultaneously with a total of around 100 employees. This includes handling any personnel matters, employee PTO, working closely with other department management to ensure staffing needs are met, and ensuring department productivity goals are being met on a daily basis. A few of my strengths are critical thinking/planning, computer knowledge, employee training, teamwork, and effective communication. I enjoy a variety of work, as well as the sense of accomplishment and value when I am in roles that allow me to help the company succeed. 

In my personal life, I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, working on cars, building computers, 3D printing, knifemaking, and blacksmithing. 

I started working while still in high-school at a local grain elevator. Then while still in high-school, I moved into a local food service chain and I was with that company for 7 years total. I then moved on to retail management and then to facility services for a local college. I held 2 jobs simultaneously for most of that time. After moving to my current employer, I quickly moved from a forklift operator, to a trainer, and then to a back-up Group Leader within my first 90 days with the company. This lead me to being promoted to Full Carton Group Leader within my first 6 months. 

I graduated from South Montgomery High-School in 2010, then attended Harrison Business College for Accounting and Business Management but did not finish. The college has closed permanently and my records are no longer available to me.
