About Tamara Scantlebury:
The call to become an educator came in 2002 when I left the publishing world as an editorial assistant to become a full time substitute teacher. Filling a vacancy in special education at an ELA teacher for grades 9-12 became more than just a job it became my passion.
After completing the NYC Teaching Fellows program, 2004, I became dual certified as a general ed ELA teacher and SWD ELA teacher with a MSED in Special education grades 7-12 with a concentration in ELA. Today, I am NYS certified teacher and instructional leader who has the recipe to create positive long lasting school communities. I believe in establishing partnerships with parent teacher communities, providing quality observations accompanied with appropriate strategies resulting in an increase in student engagement, quality instruction, classroom management and improved scores on local and state assessments.
Experience
The attached resume will reveal an eighteen-year multi-licensed special education teacher who meticulously used diagnostic tools and observational data, to closely identify students’ individual learning needs through ICT, one-to-one instruction and in small groups (in and out of the classroom).
A detailed cv will reflect in 2009-10, 2015-16, and 2017-18, the honorable experience of serving as both special education liaison and special education teacher. In addition to providing excellent instruction and classroom management, I made student and teacher schedules for SETSS and related services; identified students in need of learning support, while serving as the school’s point person for IEPs and 504s.
The experience as a “New Teacher Mentor” from 2019-22, allotted me the opportunity to support special education students on a larger scale. Here I supported aspiring and seasoned teachers by conducting observations, modeling instructional strategies, and facilitating department and whole-school instructional and behavior management strategies.
Thank you for your time. I would like to learn more about this amazing opportunity invite you to learn about me through the packet I prepared. A complete cv is included request.
Education
In 2016, I received certification for NYS School Building Leader and NYS School District Leader through the leadership pathway program at The College of St. Rose.
