Intern Investigator New Jersey Department of Transportation - Ewing, NJ May 2023 to August 2023 In this role, I served as the sole intern in the IG’s office at state DOT headquarters, rotating through units including: Internal Investigations, Ethics, Special Projects, Internal Audit, and Records/Tort/Open Public Records Act (OPRA) in a department that oversees hundreds of DOT employees state-wide. Primarily, I assisted two investigators with ethical reviews as well as employee complaint reviews. I prepared baseline documentation for investigations, then monitored GPS tracking software and analyzed logs against expected routes, to identify instances of resource mis-allocation. I also monitored other data streams including timesheet management applications and social media accounts, and I worked with data analytics, including micro and macro management for pattern recognition, using data converters to extract data from field work. In the end, I synthesized and summarized information in two- to four-page reports, coordinating with investigators to satisfy strict deadlines and exacting standards for presentation to the commission. Additionally, I assisted with the interview process, corroborating interview files from witness interviews and accounts, and assisting in compounding testimonials and evidence to be presented in hearings. In separate projects, I reviewed 10K records for the Records/Tort/Open Public Records Act (OPRA) system and tort litigation files, helping clear a one-year backlog by removing flagged or deleted records and I also reviewed employee complaints to ensure ethical compliance, ruling out regulatory red flags such as conflicts of interest or certifications not matching with policies or guidelines, in addition to checking complaints against civil law regarding transactions, associations, employment, and contract agreements. Throughout my internship, I built strong relations in the unit of 15 staff, and other interns, with a detail driven, get-it-done approach and a facility for learning complex tasks quickly.
