SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
HCI Group: Built the process for construction and deployment of Epic servers. This involved working with a host of people to include the Epic, SQL, and VMware team that for whatever reason, weren’t communicating as well as they should. The job involved breaking down the barriers to communication and collaborating on a finished product.
Mersive Technologies: The biggest achievements were in the area of saving money and resources. The biggest example here is the abandonment of Veeam Backup software in favor of Synology Backup for Business, a product included with the Synology Storage Array (where the backups were kept). The software was part of the array package, did backups much faster, and since it was paid for as part of the storage array, was essentially free. This saved $18000.00 a year in Veeam licensing. Additionally, offsite backups were moved to Backblaze, resulting in an additional $900.00 a month savings.
USDA/ASRC Federal: Upgrade What's Up Gold from 19.0 to 20.1. Additionally, I wrote numerous scripts in Powershell and shell scripts and adapted them for use in Jenkins. This made the administration of remote Windows/Linux servers a web interface function and increased productivity and security.
Digital First Media: By far, the single most significant achievement was upgrading VMware vSphere infrastructure (vCenter, Update Manager, and Host machines). Built and updated Citrix XenApp servers to more current versions. Cleaned up and made WSUS operational again. As in all place this applicant had gone, set out to and improved their documentation. There were many minor projects to include an upgrade of PaperCut and straightening out AV servers. Conducted major upgrade of Asigra Backup System from version 13.0 (Unsupported) to the latest version of 14.2.
Viega, LLC: Upgraded VMware ESXi envionment. Migrated Windows 2008 file/print servers to Windows 2016. The migration included the moving of DFS shares. Also migrated Domain controllers to new ESXi hosts and built SCCM servers. Automated certificate checking functions and wrote BAT and PowerShell scripts to handle assorted functions. The biggest single achievement was the deployment of BranchCache in both Hosted and Distributed Mode between Wichita (where the primary data center is located) and the Broomfield office (where most corporate functions happen). This increased redundancy and productivity.
Otterbox: Implemented single Sign-on using OKTA, making application access quicker, easier, and more secure for users. Additionally, identified and corrected significant issues with Active Directory. Streamlined VMware templates and restructured them to be deployed to any of the several offices around the world. Migrated several physical servers from Physical to Virtual. Assisted with migration to office 365, specifically the single sign-on piece and email.
Davita: Instrumental in training new teammates and documentation. This helped to make the team the "go-to" people to get things done. Helped to create a PowerShell script for the installation of custom software. The result was so that we could deploy a package in hours rather than days. This resulted in significant savings regarding time, money, and employee/customer satisfaction.
Other: Built several VMware ESXi environments on a contract basis. Most recently built an ESXi 7 environment for Mollie-Stone of California. This included building two separate sites, one of which could be used as a failover using VMware Disaster Replication. The site included vCenter Server, vSAN, and backups.
Education
The single best thing I ever learned is this. it's not about knowing the answer. It's about being able to ask the question and then finding the answer.
