About Priscilla Cornejo:

My name is Priscilla Elizabeth Cornejo, I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. In 2014, I graduated from the University of California, Irvine, and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior. I have several years of classroom experience in the private and international school sectors in the United States, South Korea, and Vietnam. Throughout my career, I have been responsible for classes ranging from pre-kindergarten to grade four. In Vietnam, I received my Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education along with my 120-hour TEFL certificate. I am currently teaching online while I pursue my American teaching license through a Teacher's Preparation Program. I intend to pursue a license to teach pre-kindergarten to grade three and am seeking a teaching position within that age group. I look forward to discussing future employment opportunities with you!

Experience

My name is Priscilla Elizabeth Cornejo. I am from Los Angeles, California. I have been honing my pedagogical skills since I began my studies at the University of California, Irvine in 2012. While working towards my Bachelor's degree, I took on an internship at a local children's center. My duty was to create engaging activities to help students get accustomed to varying mediums of art. During my time here I learned to be empathetic, creative, and patient with younger learners. My determination to keep learning and improving my teaching skills was strengthened after this experience.

I began working at a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool in Los Angeles after graduation. The program was bilingual and I instructed a diverse group of students, aged two to five, in both English and Spanish. The school focused on social development and learning through interaction with the environment. Singing, honing fine motor skills, and interaction between children were central to the curriculum, which was always developed with the student's abilities and parents' expectations in mind. In this setting, I learned the importance of inclusiveness. Students feeling comfortable, validated, and respected in the face of difference is paramount to creating a conducive learning environment.

After two years of teaching in Los Angeles, my desire to further my career and live abroad coalesced, resulting in my move to Seoul, South Korea. I began working at a well-regarded international school, where I taught students from kindergarten to first grade. South Korea's more rigorous and demanding educational expectations taught me to develop curricula focused on reading, writing, comprehension, and speech-based activities. Additionally, I developed strong collaborative skills by working with teachers on the development of yearly lesson plans, extra-curricular activities, and after-school events, as well as organizing resources for future teachers.

As of the past couple of years, I had been working at an international school in Hanoi, Vietnam. During this time, I received my Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education to further develop my skills. The staff and students are by far the most diverse I have encountered in my career, and the experience has broadened my adaptability and teaching techniques. During my time in Vietnam, I've developed and applied lessons consistent with the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), alongside being responsible for communicating with parents, and planning special events and conferences. Throughout my experiences at various schools, I have learned to adapt to different forms of educational technologies. I have developed skills using smart boards, ManageBac (Atlas Next), ClassDojo, Seesaw, Zoom, Google Classroom…etc.

Education

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior in 2014 from the University of California, Irvine. I have completed a 120-Hour TEFL Certificate and a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education. I am currently completing a teacher's preparation program with Moreland university toward receiving my American license teaching pre-kindergarten to grade 3.
