Megan Anderson

I am a student at George Mason University who is studying Community Health with a concentration in Clinical Sciences, and I am also a part of the varsity swim team. I graduated from Blacksburg High School in spring of 2023 with an advanced diploma, and this is where I got my CNA license.  

I worked as a lifeguard for the past 5 years, where I led a team of 20-30 lifeguards in operating an outdoor pool, answered phone calls and provided excellent customer service, and obtained a CPR certification every two years and performed lifeguard saves. I also have clinical experience of working in a nursing home while taking my CNA course. I have also worked in the food service at a resturant where I would take customer orders, work the cash register, deliver food, and provide quality customer service in a fast-paced environment. I also had to interact with families and children in order to provide an excellent restaurant experience, as well as collaborate with other servers and chefs to ensure customer satisfaction. I also prepared food which included cutting, frying, boiling, blending, and freezing, and performed all of these tasks while on a food truck as well as in the store. 

I am taking classes for my major such as Public Health Research Methods where we learn about public health research that has been done, and how it was accomplished through the various research study methods. I am also in a class called Health and Disease, which studies the different health patterns related to many diseases. Other classes that I have recently taken are Cell Biology, Microbiology, as well as General Chemistry. These three classes have given me knowledge on certain bacterial and chemical agents that can be harmful, or beneficial to human health. Especially in Microbiology where we learned about many microbial infections and diseases.
