Matthew Smedley

Currently on the path to clinical licensure, my background includes successfully assisting students in developing independence and life skills in various settings. My expertise in addressing substance use issues has provided valuable insights into the complexities of addiction and unaddressed mental health needs.

I am dedicated to creating an inclusive and culturally sensitive environment, tailoring counseling interventions to individual needs. My approach emphasizes empowering individuals to strengthen their socio-emotional skills and fostering healthier communication and relationships.

Over the course of my 6+ years of providing mental health services, I witnessed the transformative impact of a supportive counseling approach. I am eager to contribute my skills to create a nurturing environment that promotes personal growth and resilience for teenage students.

I have worked with people ranging in age from 5 years old to 63 years old. My passion is working with teens and young adults. I worked at a therapeutic boarding school for 3 years where I served students with college aspirations and a desire to alter the path their lives were on. I have provided intensive in home therapy for two years where I worked with children and teens at risk of out of home placement. In this role it was crucial to collaborate with the student, parents, and academic staff to ensure a seamless continuum of care. I am currently providing case management for our most marginalized populations on island.

I completed my Masters in Social Work degree at UH Manoa in May of 2023.
