Katie Kelly

   At a young age, I discovered that a fast paced, competitive and high pressure
environment is where I thrive.
   As a student athlete in college, I had the opportunity to compete with people from all
different backgrounds and countries. I quickly learned how to effectively use my voice in a team
environment and found that success came when my teammates and I capitalized on our strengths and worked relentlessly to improve our weaknesses. My teammates became my family and ultimately taught me that success was dependent on the support that we provided each other. On the field, there were no shortcuts. Incomplete work did not simply disappear, but fell on my teammates. I learned victory was only plausible if every single person on the team did their job and was willing to take on additional work when a teammate faltered.
   When I wasn’t in the classroom or on the field, I found time to volunteer for Habitat for
Humanity, and coach field hockey clinics and camps. During my time volunteering, I learned my
resilience in a team environment and commitment to see projects to their completion helped me navigate new leadership roles. It was incredibly rewarding to share my time, resources, and
knowledge with others and witness their growth and progression.
   After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at The University of Virginia, I
accepted a job with a startup company doing patient financial management for behavioral health patients. After two years, I developed a passion for health science and quickly realized I wanted to work with patients in a more hands-on setting. I began taking pre-requisite courses for nursing and accepted a new job as a caregiver to a one-year-old which further heightened my interest in improving the health and happiness of those around me.                                                I graduated from Gwynedd Mercy's accelerated nursing program in May 2022. I have worked as a RN in both the in patient and out patient settings. I am looking to continue my career in the out patient setting, working in a fast-paced team environment.
