About Julio Acevedo:
Julio Acevedo has worked within the Juvenile Justice System since 1998. While on active duty and stationed at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twenty-nine Palms, California, Julio started volunteering with the San Bernadino County Juvenile Probation Department. In December of 2001, Julio earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from National University in California. After leaving active duty, Julio worked at Twin Pines Ranch with Riverside County Juvenile Probation Department in California, as a Group Counselor, Senior Drill Instructor and High School Coach. Julio returned to El Paso where he worked with TYC now TJJD at the Shaffer Halfway House as a Juvenile Supervision Officer. Julio has been employed with the El Paso County Juvenile Probation Department since March of 2005 and is currently the Probation Training Officer. In December 2010 Julio earned a master’s degree in counseling from Webster’s University in Ft. Bliss, Texas. Julio is certified in facilitating; Adolescent Development, Trauma Informed Care, PREA, Handle with Care, Moral Recognition Therapy, Thinking for Good, Thinking for a Change, Strengthening Families, Foundation Skills for Trainers, Human Trafficking Awareness, a trained Grant Writer and also Certified in Mindfulness and meditation. Mr. Acevedo has also been working with Motivational Interviewing since 2007 as a trainer, coder, coach and curriculum developer. Julio has collaborated with The Texas Attorney General's Office and Baylor University in Developing an MI curriculum to be used with victims of Human Trafficking.
