Be patient with yourself! Celebrate your success!
If you have ever been in one of my training sessions, you've probably heard me say both phrases at some point. These are important to me because they remind everyone that learning doesn't happen immediately and sometimes you need to step back and appreciate how far you have come and take a moment to be proud of your accomplishments.
As a Facilitator, when I'm training a class (whether it be in person or virtual) I’m energized by the "light bulb" moments in a learning environment when everyone is engaged, and I can see my team is processing content and understanding it. My favorite conversations are when former learners come back to tell me how they are meeting their metrics or the professional progress they have made.
Having onboarded more than 500 new hires and developed 30+ new trainers, I strive to design and deliver learning experiences that not only build skills but also inspire personal and professional growth.
In a previous role as an Operations Desk Supervisor, I gained a deep appreciation for metrics-based data because I saw how much senior management depends on data to assess financial impacts, measure performance, and make strategic planning decisions.
Learning and Development is so fulfilling to me because it allows me to do something that I love and find purpose in but there are also so many methods of data that can prove my success. Some of my accomplishments include:
Trainer Effectiveness Metrics
New Employee Retention Rates
Learner Assessment Scores
Higher Customer Satisfaction Scores
Business Productivity Improvements
In the same spirit that drama students rush to the wall to see if they were selected for the role they auditioned for, I recall rushing to check course evaluation scores and post-implementation data the first time I designed a comprehensive training program and I was elated to see such positive feedback and that I drove metrics.
As I've been looking for my next career opportunity, I started training to run my first 5k. I've been reminded to be patient with myself and celebrate my success and it is motivation to continue personally and professionally. I may not be the expert in running a 5k (yet!) but if you are interested in hearing more about how I can help your organization make an impact as a Learning and Development Specialist, I'd love to hear from you!
