About Joel Charlson:
I am a dependable and hardworking father with 30 years of combined service to my country and community as a soldier and police officer. I am recently retired from law enforcement and relocated to Pittsburgh in 2020.
Experience
In August of 2020 I retired from The Baton Rouge(Louisiana)Police Deparment. During my 24 year career I worked as a homicide detective, financial crimes detective, a motorcycle officer and a member of the SWAT team. I held supervisory roles as a Sergeant and my last assignment was as a Lieutenant supervising 10 officers in the Uniform Patrol Division.
Education
After graduating high school I entered into service with the Army and subsequently the Army Nations Guard. I then attended college and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation I became a police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I spent 24 years working in many varied capacities.
