About Janis Gu:
I am a junior in Lehman College, pursuing a BS in nursing. I hope to gain experience doing a summer externship so I can gain practical knowledge on my role, develop more skills, and learn more about working in a hospital as I learn more about myself and how I can develop into a more professional nurse. I have strong communication skills, enjoy working collaboratively, hard-working, and enjoy helping others while also taking initiative.
Experience
I have worked as a project coordinator for the Public Health and Research Center at Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc., based in Bayside, Queens. Working as a CBO helped me understand how important it is to help the community learn more about what they can do to get access to health care, screenings, and other benefits. I conducted outreach activities in Queens working on a COVID-19 vaccine disparity project to research, inform, and educate people regarding the booster vaccine. I've also participated in health fairs where people can learn more about free health services and get free screenings.
As a nursing student, I have completed coursework in fundamentals of nursing, pathophysiology, nursing as a human science, community health, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, and psychiatric nursing. nursing standards, and nursing scope of standards. I have one year of clinical experience on the medical surgical floor, and a semester's experience of psychiatric nursing. I believe these courses have helped me to develop nursing critical thinking skills, gain knowledge about the nursing process,
Education
I graduated in 2020 with a BBA in Marketing Management. I have since enrolled in Lehman College and will graduate in 2024 with a BS in Nursing.
