About Ian Trout:
I'm a passionate educator with a background in business, English language arts, and youth mentorship. With over 15 years of experience working with teens in both classroom and ministry settings, I believe every student has a unique voice worth developing—and the ability to impact their world with confidence, creativity, and integrity.
I teach secondary Business and Finance while completing my B.A. in English, focusing on secondary education. My teaching approach blends real-world relevance, project-based learning, and cross-curricular storytelling to help students master academic content and practical skills. I'm especially interested in the role of technology and ethics in education, and I'm trained in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and responsible AI integration.
Beyond the classroom, I've served in youth discipleship, led mission trips, and created curriculum that builds both character and competence. Whether in the school, church, or community, I aim to lead with authenticity, empathy, and a growth mindset.
My long-term goals include completing a Master's in English, developing innovative curriculum, and contributing to a culture of excellence and equity in education.
Experience
I am a dedicated secondary educator with a diverse background in Business, English Language Arts, and youth mentorship. My experience includes teaching business and finance at the high school level, where I design and implement engaging, real-world curricula that integrate writing, critical thinking, and technology. I have also worked extensively in youth ministry and discipleship for over 15 years, leading small groups, worship, and mission trips locally and internationally.
In addition to classroom teaching, I bring leadership experience in team management, operations, and curriculum development. I am trained in educational technology, including the Adobe Creative Suite, AI tools, and digital content platforms. With a strong foundation in communication, student-centered instruction, and cross-curricular integration, I am passionate about helping students grow academically and personally in environments rooted in purpose, creativity, and compassion.
Education
Currently completing a Bachelor of Arts in English with an Emphasis in Secondary Education at Grand Canyon University. This program has provided rigorous training in literature, composition, instructional methods, classroom management, and standards-aligned lesson planning. Through coursework and field experience, I have developed a strong foundation in educational theory, pedagogical practice, and practical strategies for teaching diverse learners in the English Language Arts classroom. I am also cleared to intern through the university as I complete my final requirements for graduation and credentialing.
