About Hojae Jeon:

Dear Hiring Manager,

My name is Hojae Jeon, and I am on track to graduate from the University of Iowa on May 9th. Currently, I am actively seeking opportunities as a research assistant who works remotely for my forthcoming graduate studies. As an international student, I possess an OPT visa, which permits me to work for a 1 year post-graduation.

My experience with some research is the following:

At the University of Iowa, I took an Econometrics course, which equipped me with the necessary analytical and research methodology skills. Dr. Min helped me realize the commonalities between my prior studies, trade, and evolving academic aspirations. With statistical tools such as Stata and regression models in the course, I learned about concealed correlations within trade patterns, highlighting the intersection between trade policies and economic variables. I examined how tariffs impact a country’s GDP growth while controlling for other confounding factors. Thanks to my prior knowledge of trade theories, I already knew the features of tariffs. I found that there was a significant negative correlation between increased tariff rates and GDP growth, so I concluded that higher tariffs are associated with lower economic growth.

At the University of Iowa, in the econometrics course, I worked on my research paper, “Do Young Americans Take on More Debt than Older Americans?” under the instruction of Professor, Seong-Joo Min, exploring distinctive borrowing patterns observed among various age groups. The social issue of household debt was highly controversial in the United States, so I wrote the paper. I collected distinctive variables in each dataset from the New York Federal Reserve to secure the correctness of linear regression analysis in Stata. I concluded younger Americans tend to owe more money than older Americans because the linear regression referred to a positive correlation as being older. I enjoyed this project because it introduced the overall process for economic analysis.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I am looking forward to contributing to your team!

Experience

One of my notable research experiences involved utilizing statistical tools such as Stata and regression models to examine the impact of tariffs on a country’s GDP growth. This research not only solidified my analytical and research methodology skills but also emphasized the practical intersection between trade policies and economic variables.

My international experiences, including participating in the DB Business Management Program in Seoul, South Korea, and serving as a reporter for the World Report in the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), have honed my interpersonal and communication skills. These experiences have also allowed me to work collaboratively in multicultural settings, demonstrating my adaptability and versatility.

Moreover, my involvement with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and the Koreafuture News has enhanced my research and analytical capabilities. Through my participation in international organizations, I have gained exposure to various non-profit sectors under the United Nations and developed a knack for synthesizing information into comprehensive reports.

In addition to my academic and experiential qualifications, I possess a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word as proved in the transcript that I have got an A from the Business Computing Essential course at the University of Iowa. Plus, my certifications in trade-related fields, including Certified Origin Specialist and The Foreign Exchange Specialist II’s Certificate, showcase my commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
