About George Blue:
I recently graduated from Pitzer college with a B.A. in Neuroscience and am seeking a research assistant role before I apply to Ph.D. programs.
Experience
I worked as a research assistant in Dr. Sandra Watson’s laboratory. Dr. Watson’s lab uses Drosophila melanogaster to study dopamine metabolism, regulation, and dopamine-dependent behaviors in the context of psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. As a member of the lab, I was responsible for maintaining fly stocks, crossing flies, running flies through behavioral experiments utilizing the Drosophila activity monitor-5 system (DAM-5), dissecting, staining, and preparing larval brains for and performing confocal fluorescence microscopy, conducting background research to generate novel hypotheses, analyzing behavioral data using R Programming Language (Rethomics), and overseeing the training of new lab members.
I also worked as a research assistant in Dr. Catherine L. Reed’s laboratory. The Reed Lab is a cognitive neuroscience lab that utilizes EEG and behavioral methods to study how vision, touch, and the body influence attention, perception, actions, and emotional processing. I mainly performed data processing and analysis for Dr. Reed using MATLAB programming to conduct independent component analysis (ICA) on EEG data. I also ran participants through behavioral tasks while recording EEG data.
