About Gaeun Ban:

With a strong background in classical music, I am both a performer and an educator with a deep interest in arts administration. With over 11 years of teaching experience across various levels and age groups, I excel at creating individualized lesson plans and setting tailored goals to meet each student’s unique needs. My commitment to providing continuous support and maintaining open communication has been integral to my students’ success. I am confident that my passion for music and teaching will continue to inspire and guide my students effectively.

Experience

I am a Korean-Canadian pianist with a deep passion for performance, teaching, and arts administration. My journey in music began to gain recognition in 2013 when I won the Canadian Music Competition at the age of 18. Since then, I have been honored with top prizes at the Kiwanis and Peel Music Festivals and have performed in prestigious venues, including Steinway Hall in New York City, Guk-je Art Hall in Seoul, and with the Napolinova Orchestra in Italy.

As a DMA candidate at Boston University, I also served as a Teaching Assistant, teaching group piano classes, private lessons, music theory, and keyboard skills while also providing tailored instruction to individual students.

In addition to my work at the university, I have been teaching private piano lessons at Brimmer and May School and Kingsley Montessori School, where I design personalized lesson plans to meet each student’s unique needs. My role as Collaborative Pianist for the Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus has further enhanced my ability to work in ensemble settings, collaborating with singers and directors to achieve artistic excellence.

Previously, I directed my own piano studio in Seoul, where I developed innovative teaching systems, coordinated scheduling, and guided students toward success in competitions, concerts, and auditions. I have also served as a Program Assistant at Morningside Music Bridge, Music Director at Inverness Presbyterian Church, and School Accompanist at the Peabody Institute.

Recently, I had the chance to perform at the annual Boston University Beethoven Symposium, perform chamber recital and solo recitals at the BU concert hall as well. My lecture recital was on ‘Analysis of Beethoven’s Early Piano Works through the Kafka Miscellany’.

Education

I am nearing completion of my Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at Boston University. I have already earned an Arts Management Certificate from Boston University, a Graduate Performance Diploma, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory. My education has equipped me with a solid foundation in both musical artistry and arts administration.
