Services offered

Twenty plus years in education has afforded me the opportunity to hold every teacher leader position in grades K-8.  This enhances my skill set as an educational leader and allows me to help teachers make connections with the vertical alignment so much needed during the instructional process.  My BS, M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees in education and educational leadership has opened the doors for me to facilitate, develop, and provide workshops and trainings to adult learners and practitioners in the industry.  Please allow me to utilize my gifts and talents to help advance the KIPP student population.

Experience

I am a 20-year professional public school educator, administrator and mental health advocate. I’ve participated as a K-8 classroom teacher. I’ve taught all subject areas at the early childhood and elementary levels. I’ve taught Literacy, Math, and Social Studies at the middle school level. I’ve also been an ESL or ML teacher.

Alongside my mental health experiences, my matriculation prepared me to advocate for special needs youth in various arenas. I’ve provided training at the district level for public schools concerning special needs students with an emphasis on students with severe mental health diagnosis in the public school sector.

I formed my own advocacy agency, which started as a local chapter of the National Federation for Families of Children's Mental Health named, Mommie and Me Advocacy LLC. With this agency, I’ve advocated for over 500 youth and families dealing with autism and severe mental health issues in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and Georgia.

I’ve also performed as a licensed High Fidelity WrapAround Specialist/Supervisor for the state of Georgia. I supervised 15 other specialists and provided training on note writing, and best practices. I partnered with the state mental health agency and mental health institutions to

transfer medical IEPs into educational IEP’s once the child/youth was to be transitioned back into the public school setting. I am also a NAMI licensed Family Support Facilitator.

Education

I have a BS degree in Elementary Education; a M.Ed. degree in Adult Education; a second M.Ed. degree in Educational Leadership and Global Studies; and a Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Global Studies.

My published dissertation involved a Focus Group Study examining why parents of autistic children were opting to homeschool.  It yielded recommendations and findings that concluded that many parents of color were opting to homeschool due to the lack of equity in special education services for their autistic children.
