About Derek Ing:
I am Derek Ing, a undergraduate student at Caltech in the class of 2024. I am majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Information and Data Sciences. I am interested in a software engineering or machine learning/data science internship for summer 2022.
Experience
Previously did a summer research fellowship at Caltech with the Kasliwal Research Group in machine learning in astronomy for 10 weeks on Finding Millisecond Optical Transients and Variable Sources in Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) Data Using Unsupervised Anomaly Detection Algorithms under mentorship of Professor Mansi Kasliwal and Postdoc. Igor Andreoni. I developed a machine learning method in Python to detect stars and other astronomical transient sources varying on sub-second timescales in a dataset of lightcurves from ZTF. I also did freelance private tutoring for a year tutoring high school students online in various high school math, physics, and chemistry courses. Before that, I had a research internship with NEFIN Group Malaysia, a solar power developer.
