Global Vice President, R&D, Home & Commercial (Rubbermaid/Ball/Quickie), Elmer’s and Dymo 

Leader of Global R&D organization for all product development activity (Hardware, Firmware, Application SW, Chemistry, Packaging, Quality, ID, Regulatory) across the full product line to ensure the products (HW, SW and consumables) are delivered on time, within budget, exceeding quality standards and meeting customer requirements. 

  • Lead 200 team members (US, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Malaysia & China) in a $1.9B portfolio and a $14M budget.
  • Developed the 5-year business unit strategy as a member of the executive team inclusive of product direction, revenue growth, margin accruals, engagement, and operational footprint.
  • Doubled output of annual innovation through improved efficiency of resources and enhanced stage gate processes.
  • Integrated new M&A business (Elmer’s), established new ODMs and drove VAVE activity (saved $20M in 2020-22).
  • Established technology roadmap and created the IP reward process for Newell Brands (increasing disclosures by 100%).
  • Created new technical relationships with key customers/partners resulting in new products with revenues of over $50M.

CROSS MATCH, INC., Palm Beach Gardens, FL                          3/2009 – 10/2015

Global Vice President, HW Business Line (2012 to 2015) 

Leader of HW Business Line (all 30 products in the portfolio) and responsible for profitability and customer satisfaction of the business line which included product roadmap development, project execution, market launch, customer requirement capture, new business development, customer support, sales support, market alignment and business line profitability.

  • Led Product Management, Project Management and drove all corporate functions needed to run the business (established a stage gate process and vitality rate metric resulting in 50% improvement product launch times) 
  • Led a $140M portfolio of biometric devices and a $12M dollar controllable budget.   
  • Defined and launched five new handheld devices with new fingerprint and optical technology (internally and 3rd parties).
  • Integrated multiple product lines under one organization (Handheld, Fixed) to enable efficient use of resources. 

Global Senior Vice President, Engineering (2009 – 2012) 

Leader of all Engineering & responsible for all product development activity (Hardware, Software, Product & Program Management) across the full biometric product line (Desktop, Handheld, Software) to ensure the products are delivered on time, within budget, exceeding quality standards and meeting the customer requirements.

  • Led 90 team members (Germany, Canada and the US) in a $120M portfolio and a $12M budget. 
  • Responsible for company's operational engineering activities including delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints and integration of new technology into the product lines.
  • Grew a strong team that increased annual new product output by 50% per year while reducing budget by 10%.
  • Interfaced with the US Department of Defense, US Department of Justice, international defense departments and many biometric industry integrators to grow the overall company year to year revenue by 20%. 

MOTOROLA, INC., Sunrise, FL                                                   05/1987 – 03/2009

Global Vice President, Product Development, Mobile Devices Business (2006 - 2009)

Leader for the Motorola Productivity Product Line (Windows Mobile Products) and responsible for all product development activity (Hardware, Software, Quality Program Management and Product management) across CDMA and UMTS technologies to ensure products are delivered on time, within budget, exceeding quality standards and meeting customer requirements.

  • Led 450 team members (340 internal, 110 contractors) in a $650M portfolio of cellular devices with 2 million units of annual sales and a $65M dollar controllable budget in 2008.   
  • Achieved commercial agreements with our carrier customers resulting in over $300M in revenue from 2008-2009
  • Led four concurrent product teams that introduced the Q family of products (Q, Q9h, Q9c, Q8) worldwide (US, Asia, LATAM and Europe) and our next generation of touch devices (A3000, A3100).
  • Interfaced with customers, vendors, ODMs, strategic partners and other third parties. Developed personal relationships with senior management of the major cellular carriers to ensure service and delivery commitments were maintained. 

Senior Director, Product Development, Mobile Devices Business (2003 - 2006)

Leader for 3GSM High Tier Product Line within Motorola’s Mobile Devices Business (3G feature phones) & responsible for all product development activity (Hardware, Software and Product management) to ensure the products are delivered on time, within budget, exceeding quality standards and meeting the customer requirements.

  • Led 300 team members in a $600M portfolio of devices with 2 million units of sales and a $50M dollar budget. 
  • Product successes included: V3x handset- 3GSM Show Product of the Year in 2006, A1000 handset (1st Symbian product at Motorola), and M1000 handset (1st product to ship to DoCoMo in over 10 years).

Director, Personal Communications Group (2000 - 2003)

Director for Motorola’s Symbian, WCDMA organization (200 associates, three products and a $40M budget).

  • Negotiated two customer contracts that resulted in over $1 billion in UMTS commercial business and negotiated eleven separate third party SW agreements due to complexity of development task. 
  • Drove the commercial agreements with Hutchison (3) and DoCoMo to secure Motorola’s leadership position which included making the first consumer 2-way video call on a mobile device.
