About Ariana Birchler:

I am a recent graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree. I have done many conservation projects and have been a part of the wildlife center in Virginia. I have wanted to be a part of the Marine Biology programs since I was about 6 years of age. I love to read, do research, and be a part of sea turtle programs and beach cleanups. I have experience in animal handling, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I also know micropipette usage, drawing vials, and microscope skills.

Experience

Sea Turtle Abroad Program, Costa Rica May 2024-May 2024 CCU Abroad Program
Conducted analysis of sea turtle nests to understand nesting behaviors and reproductive patterns.
Explored critical ecosystems serving as habitats for leatherback turtles.
Participated in fieldwork and research for the protection and conservation of leatherbacks.
Contributed to Environmental Protection Initiative (EPI) efforts to mitigate threats faced by sea turtles.
Coastal Carolina University, Conway, SC August 2023-December 2023 Independent Study with Crab Research                                                                                                              Mentored freshman students in a research study on fiddler crabs.
Collected data on behavioral patterns of fiddler crabs at Waties Island.
Observed and documented crabs’ reactions to sound and light stimuli.
Conducted research on the behaviors of various crab species.
 

Wildlife Center of Virginia, Waynesboro, VA January 2022-August 2022
Volunteer
Prepared and served meals for animals residing in the facility.
Monitored reptile enclosures, recording data on health and behavior.
Analyzed habitat conditions (humidity, temperature) for turtles and reptiles.
Assisted in maintaining animal habitats by replacing bedding and ensuring proper water levels.


Hopes Legacy Equine Rescue, Afton, VA January 2022-August 2022 Volunteer
Provided medication and meals to sick and injured horses.
Collaborated with other volunteers to care for rescued horses.
Gained ATV driving experience to assist with facility management.
Learned about horse rescue, rehabilitation, and behavioral care.
