Anya Newell

I am a recent masters graduate in Social Practice Art where I learned to begin working with the public to include art in culture and community building. I have my art teaching license from my bachelor's degree, and I went into social practice to learn how to use my love for people, kids, education, community work, and art to look at expanding my practice into places outside the schools. I love art and what it allows the community to build and participate in and want to continue growing my practice in education and arts at summer camp to something involving a greater community.

Painting Instructor

• Taught 1.5 to 2 hour long acrylic painting classes to ages 5+
• Managing time and instruction to have up to 30 people complete a painting by the end of the time period alloted
• Experience acrylic painting on canvas and wood

Paint-Your-Own-Pottery Worker and Instruction

• Guided and directed all ages through the process of painting and firing pottery
• Taught pottery painting classes to all ages
• Loaded, unloaded and ran kilns including fixing issues with the pottery when problems arose with the firing process
• Customer service: taking payments, issuing gift cards, money handling, booking events, and making and receiving phone calls

Summer Camp Creative Arts Assistant Director

• Held this position for 4 summers
• Oversaw and taught crafts and ceramic activities including tie dye, watercolor painting, drawing, bracelets, keychains, and pottery painting
• Coordinate scheduling of staff and daily activities for department
• Loaded, unloaded and ran kilns including fixing issues with the pottery when problems arose with the firing process
• Stock materials for both activity areas
• Take charge of creative arts department when director is on their day off or is gone for unforseen circumstances

YMCA Community Action Program College Arts Service Coordinator

• Volunteer position
• Worked with children referred to the program by their principal or juvenile court system ages 8 to 17
• Coordinated college volunteers from the art program to help lead arts and crafts activities for the kids including practical skills like sewing and weaving or motor skills with clay and painting or fun skills like random requested crafts
• Planned weekly activities for an hour's  time slot
