“There are no problems, only solutions”. As a forward thinking nurse leader, a positive mindset creates the culture for a remarkable employee experience and optimal patient outcomes. If leaders are avoidant in the development and success of their employees, then the patient experience is moot. I believe in fostering a creative work environment where team members find purpose in their work.

I find joy in my nursing journey through inspiring other healthcare professionals, as well as providing value-based, quality patient care. We are in a place of unchartered waters for nursing practice, and the healthcare system as a whole. We must embrace this exciting time of unfamiliarity as one to rebuild nursing, and cultivate the profession back to its original roots, demonstrative in selfless acts of  compassionate care. I am passionate about the professional development and sustainability of our intergenerational nursing resources, to meet the needs of our current workforce. 

I am prepared to ask better questions in search of answers to prevent problems. I am willing to do the work alongside my team members to build their trust and know I am a nurse, first. Smart leaders know how to keep an eagle eye on operations, but have the ability to swoop in and out at times to maintain the team's integrity. I pride myself in being a transformational leader with a servant's heart. 

My experience in healthcare spans nearly three decades; those roles vary from a medical assistant, a registered nurse, a supervisor, and a nurse manager to a strategic healthcare executive and adjunct clinical nursing instructor. To date, I have loved every step of my nursing career! I pride myself in accepting challenges with the ability to remain calm and collected. I do not hesitate to ask for assistance when I do not know things, and I am readily available to teach others who seek knowledge. I look forward to the right opportunity when it is presented.

My most recent experience in my nursing career was a bit of a deviation off the standard path. I worked as the Senior Nursing Hiring Manager for Novant Health in the Coastal Market. I learned so much about the lifecycle of nursing job requisitions, candidacy, the talent pipeline, nuances of talent and acquisition, the importance of branding, and a rock solid onboarding and orientation. 

While the centralized hiring process is still evolving and at times, questionable, I was able to have an ongoing part of the development and see the pros and cons of the process. While it is not best practice for the hiring modality of every nursing specialty, I do believe there is a niche and benefit in certain circumstances/organizations.

I am wrapping up my final coursework and capstone for my MSN and Nurse Executive Leadership degree. I will likely continue to pursue further continuing education, degrees, and certifications in nursing throughout the remainder of my career. I thoroughly enjoy learning and embrace professional and personal growth.
