About Andrew Peacock:
As a digital media & journalism scholar, I seek to be an explanatory editor covering climate, technology, and science.
Growing up, I found conspiracy theories and disinformation everywhere. Recently, it's clear that belief in false science, subjective emotions, and unproven theories has produced a confluence of worldviews in our communities. How does our society create and communicate objective truths to the masses?
That's what my research is all about!
I converge robust research methods and storytelling strategies in an effort to learn how we can best communicate objective realities to the masses.
Ultimately, I seek to:
1. Convey the marvels of our planet through empathetic climate stories
2. Simplify the feats of scientific discovery so others may see them too
3. Learn all I can about the best strategies for communicating scientific complexities of the world to humanity
Experience
I am a multidimensional communicator. In addition to my graduate education, I served as Editor-in-Chief with Gnovis Journal, an interdisciplinary journal publishing peer-reviewed scholarly research across areas such as computer science, climate science, statistics, and media studies. Leading the four-person team, I oversaw the production of two digital double-blind peer-reviewed journals from 2021-23. The most recent publication, Gnovis Journal Vol. 23, features six peer-reviewed scholarly articles and seven academic book reviews. I spearheaded the team effort by crafting editorial calendars, leading weekly meetings, initiating research workshops, and executing our communication strategy, which included multiple rounds of peer-review, editorial review, and copyedits. This experience has prepared me to become particularly vigilant in criticizing scientific claims and maintaining a strong understanding of contemporary research across disciplines, as well as identifying well-sourced studies. I intend to leverage this academic, editorial, and publishing experience to inspire scientific literacy and accuracy in my career.
Education
While earning an M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) at Georgetown University, my primary focus was in distilling complex and scientific information for the public eye, specifically in climate science and technology spaces. This led me to pursue fact-checking and journalism, and I subsequently received a graduation certificate in Digital Media & Journalism. As a student, I was exposed to research across the STEM spectrum, including engineering, mathematics, chemistry, and geology.
