About Abel Agbai Egbu:
Agbai Abel Egbu has a rich and varied career in the banking, Academics and Accounting Profession. He was a pioneer staff of Olive Microfinance Bank Limited in 2008, where he served as the Head of Internal Control and Audit. His dedication and expertise led to his appointment as the Acting Managing Director/CEO of Olive Microfinance Bank Limited from June 2023 to March 2024, during which time he oversaw the successful restructuring of the bank.
Prior to his role at Olive Microfinance Bank Limited, Agbai held key positions in renowned institutions. He served as the Acting Risk and Compliance Manager with FINCA Impact Finance in Uganda and Zambia, and played a pivotal role as the start-up Risk and Compliance Manager in Nigeria. Additionally, he began his banking career at the defunct Hallmark Bank Plc, where he served as the Branch Operations Manager from 2003 to 2005.
His adroitness extends beyond microfinance banking, as evidenced by his role as the General Manager/Group Head of Audit and Enterprise Risk Management at Masters Energy, Oil and Gas Limited, a major player in the Oil and Gas industry, from 2019 to 2023.
Agbai holds Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honors and Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Accounting and Finance from Enugu State University of Science and Technology and the University of Calabar, respectively. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and a Certified Microfinance Banker (MCB). Additionally, he is affiliated with esteemed professional organizations such as the International Association of Risk Management Professionals (IARSP) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA), Nigeria.
He participated in various training programs locally and abroad. He attended Helix Institute of Risk Management in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh. Furthermore, he has expanded his knowledge base through advanced certificate programs in Information Technology at the University of Zambia (UNZA).
Agbai's expertise extends to academia, where he served as a lecturer at the Don Bosco Polytechnic in Monrovia, Liberia. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to financial inclusion and development finance, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by an American University. He has completed a Doctorate (PhD) in Strategic Management and Leadership.
