We're hiring an
Emergency Room Technician at the University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Illinois In this role, you
will be responsible for delivering high quality care to our patients in our
Adult Emergency Department.


The Adult Emergency Department consists of 45 patient care beds (and 12 fast-track chairs), including six trauma/resuscitation suites and separate rooms for infection isolation, care of immune compromised patients, and psychiatric consultations.

In the general care area, 45 rooms are fully equipped with critical care monitoring capabilities. The six trauma/resuscitation suites are immediately adjacent to the ambulance bay.

The main trauma suite is equipped with a video camera and monitor which is used to record and review resuscitations.

This experience is invaluable for analyzing and learning from the acute care setting.


Job Summary:


The Emergency Room Technician assists and augments the registered nursing staff in providing high quality patient care in the Emergency Room.

The ER Technician must demonstrate the expertise and competency of all paramedic skills in accordance with Illinois State law.


Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have current Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.
  • EMT-B or EMT-P, Medical Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS/PALS certification

Position Details

  • Full-Time, 0.9 FTE
  • Night Shift, 7p7a, every other weekend working requirement
  • Area: Adult Emergency Department
  • CBA Code: 743 S&M
In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 36 hours per week.

We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the day shift, from approximately 7pm-7am and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts.

We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus.

The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) only every other week.
