Position Objective:
This position will coordinate the maintenance, construction, and repair of stations and facilities within Metro-Norths territories safely and effectively. Coordinate projects with other departments as well as outside concerns as necessary.

Define work objectives for future maintenance, construction, and repair programs based on bridge and structural standards for safe and reliable operation.


Responsibilities:


  • Implement and develop cyclical Maintenance and repair programs for Stations and Facilities on Metro-North territories and ensure safe and reliable service. Evaluate regularly and recommend corrective actions.
  • Evaluate future construction, maintenance, and repair programs for Stations and Facilities, which include developing cost estimates.
  • Develop project scopes and production planning schedules for inhouse projects to perform work safely and efficiently and in compliance with the Metro-North Safety Program.
  • Direct subordinates in efficient use of budgeted resources. Review allocation of personnel, material, and equipment for all projects.
  • Coordinate all work efforts on interdepartmental projects with various department managers to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Review construction designs for compliance with Metro-North standards.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Training Core Competencies:

  • Excellent planning, forecasting, and organizational skills to ensure construction, repair, and maintenance work is performed safely and efficiently, on schedule while keeping service disruptions minimized.
  • Strong ability to analyze defects at Stations and Facilities and develop solutions to maintenance problems.
  • Strong knowledge of all trades relative to the maintenance of stations and facilities.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to foster teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to interact with internal departments, as well as city and state agencies.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours/7 days.
  • Valid drivers license.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials may be considered in place of a degree to include an additional 4 years of related experience.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in construction, maintenance and repair of facilities to include broad knowledge of overall rail transportation operations.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively complex management experience managing projects and a diverse workforce.

According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the Commission).


Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
