The Professional Academic Advisor is responsible for delivering academic and pre-professional advising to undergraduates at the University of New England.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and professional advising support in multiple settings and formats.
  • Collaborate with the academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, Westbrook College of Health Professions and the College of Business on matters relating general academic advising issues.
  • Know and communicate details of all undergraduate curricular requirements.
  • Provide appropriate information to students regarding future professions, including academics, field experience, and other opportunities relevant to their major.
  • Track student progress within the academic programs and provide academic support and referral as appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate information to students on all levels of preparation for admission to professional programs, including academics, field experience, and personal attributes.
  • Track and report admissions data for preprofessional students.
  • Be available to meet with students oneonone and in groups for advising
  • Attend all newstudent orientation, open house, and recruitment events as needed
  • Provide faculty, department chairs and academic deans with updates regarding advisement of first and second year students
  • Assist with website and social media in collaboration with the academic departments.
  • Provide academic advising at all orientation sessions.
  • Disseminate information on UNE policies and procedures as it pertains to degree completion
  • Provide academic information to prospective students through participation in Admissions recruiting events, individualized appointments and electronic means.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to academic departments, student support programs and other university resources as necessary to help students achieve their academic goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 12 years advising experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Positive and energetic demeanor
  • Capacity to work with and understand undergraduates
  • Experience collaborating or working with the health professions community
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • An understanding of and preference for collaborative approaches to problem solving.
  • Experience with record keeping
  • Willingness to work both autonomously and collaboratively with team members
  • Strong technological skills in Microsoft Office and Banner, or similar data system
  • Willingness to work alternate hours to allow optimal opportunities for student contact
  • Comfortable with data systems.
