Responsibilities
Tool mechanics manufacture stamping tools, bending devices, or casting and injection molds for industrial mass production. They also produce metal or plastic parts as well as surgical instruments. They work with metal by drilling, milling, and hammering, ensuring precise measurements according to technical drawings.

They use measuring and testing equipment to check the accuracy of workpieces down to a few thousandths of a millimeter.

In addition to traditional manual methods, they also use CNC-controlled machine tools, which they may program themselves. They assemble individual parts into finished tools and test them for proper functioning. They also maintain and repair damaged tool parts and provide instruction to customers on how to operate equipment.
Where do they work?

Tool mechanics primarily work in mechanical engineering, automotive manufacturing, or foundries. They are mainly based in workshops and machine halls. In workshops, they produce small components or inspect the quality of finished products.Qualifications
Precision is required when setting up machine tools for the production of precision components. Manual dexterity and knowledge in the field of woodworking and technology are essential for producing precise individual parts. Mathematics, for example, is important for calculating machine settings. Knowledge of technical drawing is necessary for reading and creating individual part drawings. Knowledge of physics is beneficial for assessing material properties.
