Content & Digital Library Systems Student Assistant

Pay Status and Classification:
Non-exempt, temporary, full-time


Supervisor:
Catalog & Metadata Librarian, Metadata Specialist, and Digital Projects and Metadata Librarian


Start Date:
This position is estimated to start on or after June 22nd.


Position Purpose:
Assist with managing library materials in collection and with digital projects


Essential Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Participate in special projects pertaining to the CDLS department.
  • Independently scan historical and contemporary material using an overhead and flatbed scanner.
  • Assist the Digital Projects and Metadata Librarian, Digital Collections and Preservation Librarian, and Metadata Specialist with image capture, quality assurance, and spreadsheet work as necessary.
  • Process all designated cataloged material that is received, in a variety of formats and languages, according to departmental instructions.
  • Review records and spreadsheets for quality assurance benchmarks.
  • Comply with CDLS policies and procedures, including a commitment to a set work schedule for the term and notify supervisors in advance of any scheduling changes.

Qualifications:


  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to work well independently and follow detailed written instructions.
  • Moderate to high comfort levels with technology, file management, and software like Excel, Google Sheets, or Photoshop desirable.
  • Ability to push a cart of books or lift up to 50 pound.
  • Ability to handle rare and fragile material with care.
  • The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.

Compensation

The rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
